Spring Spin Class and my Tri

This is the lead singer of the band Battles. Absolutely nothing to do with the following blog. Enjoy.

This past Thursday was my first day of Spin Class. The music sucked but the instructor was very knowledgable, so I think I'll be getting my monies worth. It seems like I was focused more on my form and technique as opposed to just getting a workout. We are also allowed to work out after at the nice ass Club One gym, so thats an added bonus. And the black girl working the front desk was cute.

After spin on Thursday I didn't really work out, so nothing blog related to talk about here.

Monday I decided to change which Triathlon I will be competing in next. Instead of Big Kahuna I will be doing the SF Triathlon, which is another olympic tri in November. It fits my schedule better, and its 3 times cheaper than Big Kahuna, which after spending so much on tri's this year is a good thing. This tri also works out better because I also found out on friday I will be pace leading a very fast pace for the Nike Marathon. Other runners are going to relying on me to train properly and motivate for the Nike Marathon, if I were training for Big Kahuna at the same time it would take away from all I'd have to offer as a pace leader.

So the plan from here on out is to continue biking and swimming regualary, and once I get back from Africa and complete Nike, I will start some intense tri training (bricks).

Oh yeah yesterday I did a short (40 minute) swim in Aquatic Park. Weather was nice and is getting hotter. My bouyie lap time was about 15 minutes.

Track Season "Part 2" has Begun!

So yesterday was the first day of track. Sorta. It was actually the first day after the initial track program training portion. The first portion focused on training for Wildflower. It helped me out a lot in getting faster, my current long distance (10 plus mile runs) pace is around 8 minutes per mile. My short run pace (4-10 miles) is around a 7:40 / mi, and my sprint pace (0-4 miles) is around a 7:20 / mi. These times were unheard of from me even a year ago as I was training for a full marathon. Unfortunately for me the track workouts did not help me at all during the Wildflower. I ran a 1:00:00 10K, which is like a 10 minute mile pace, and I cramped the whole way, I didn't listen to Tom (our track coach) and went out too fast, thus the cramping.

With that all being said, I'm getting ready next week to sign up (pay money) for the next portion of the track work outs, which will get me much more faster and not prepare me for the half marathon I must run for Big Kahuna.

Oh and yesterday we did hill repeats up a dirt trail in Goldne Gate Park (Strawberry Hill I think). There were a bunch of guys chilling near the top who weren't working out, it looked like they were scoping out a spot for the night, to play there guitars and do acid. i was tempted to ask them if that was there plan and if I could join, but then I remembered that Big Kahuna was 4 months away.

Start of my Big Kahuna Triathlon Training

Ok.

This is my first ever blog. I'm going to blog my training for Big Kahuna. Big Kahuna is a Half Ironman Triathlon, which is the following standard distances: 1.5 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and a 13.1 mile run. This event is held on September 6th, 2008. I've yet to register.

More to come . . . .
